Unleashing the Power of Unconditional Respect: Transforming Law
Enforcement and Police Training
Jack Colwell & Chip Huth
Chip and Jack utilize Robert Peel's timeless principles, western and
eastern military philosophies of war and soldier traditions,
Plato's Republic, warrior traditions such as Bushido, studies on
brain functionality, social research, theology, philosophy, rich
leadership literature and thousands of conversations with hundreds
of cops and people from many diverse backgrounds. We listen and
consistently discover unifying themes running through all of this
diversity. Through this, they have come to some 'startling'
conclusions that have unprecedented implications for policing in
the 21st century. The two core statements regarding personal
anima and basic mission for policing have far-reaching implications
that provide course correction for the law enforcement profession's
most pressing problems:
· The profession of L.E. requires a personal anima (inner
way) that sees all people as people, is rooted in
integrity, buttressed by courage and expressed as
unconditional respect for all.
· The basic mission of L.E. is to build partnership with our
communities, and leverage that partnership to instil
safety, security and prosperity into our communities and
organizations.
Chapter 1 discusses why courage is lacking in a bravery-rich
culture such as law enforcement. The Chapter 2 demonstrates
how personal integrity is the foundation for unconditional respect,
and reasons why having and maintaining integrity are some of the
most difficult struggles in an individual's life. Chapter 3
enumerates some of the tactical benefits of unconditional respect.
Chapters 4 through 6 will look at the interpersonal benefits of
unconditional respect, with chapter 5 specifically focusing in on
anima-based leadership core competencies. Chapter 7 deals with how
unconditional respect affects law enforcement's interaction with
the communities in which it operates. Chapter 8 explains how
unconditional respect creates and builds high character. Finally,
chapter 9 deals with influencing an organizational culture toward
unconditional respect.
