This week I have two book recommendations.
In July a friend of mine recommended a book to me called Younger Next Year. The book is primarily targeted at men over the age of 50 (they have a women's version as well).
The premise of the book is that you do not have to give in to the effects of aging. If you do a few simple things you can actually improve your physical health as you age. There is some good medical information in the book that makes a lot of sense if you are willing to commit to it.
Over the last year or two I have seen Dr. Daniel Amen's name come up on a number of different sources and a variety of people have recommended his books. Recently I watch a video of a presentation Dr. Amen did on the brain. Amen's premise is that you do not have to give in to the belief that your brain deteriorates with age. You can in fact improve the health of your brain with age. I subsequently read his three books Change Your Brain, Change Your Life,
Change Your Brain, Change Your Body and The Amen Solution. All three books are excellent and all three have some of the same information. If you were going to buy just one and wanted the best one for an overall exposure to Amen's message then I would recommend The Amen Solution. As someone who relies on his brain to make a living (as so many of us do) Amen's work had a huge impact on me. I tend to eat healthy, exercise and do the right things most of the time but this information has helped me to stop make excuses, especially when I am on the road. Amen shows scientifically that the more excess weight (fat) you are carrying the smaller your brain is. His recommendations on exercise and nutrition are easy to follow and dramatically reduce your risk of dementia, Alzheimer's disease and a host of other issues.
