According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2010 Homicide was the second leading cause of death in the US for people 15 to 24 years of age, the third leading cause of death for people 1 to 4, and 25 to 34 years of age, the fourth leading cause of death for people 5 to 14 years and the fifth leading cause of death for people 35 to 44. You read about these murders every day in the newspaper and watch them on the evening news but, do you ever think about the men and women who have to investigate these deaths. Some of you have had a loved one murdered and some of you are the men and women who are tasked with investigating in excess of 17,000 homicides per year in North America.
For those who perform this critical and extremely physically and emotionally demanding job of investigating homicide there is an important conference in Orlando this December. Steven Moser, the conference organizer, is a quality individual with a wealth of knowledge and experience as an investigator and a trainer. Steven has arranged a powerful lineup of speakers for this five day event, which is designed to give you investigative and phycological skills necessary for you perform your job. I am honored to be on the slate of speakers for this important event.
If you are a homicide or death investigator please review the important information in the attached brochure, mark the dates on your calendar and then go to the website to register. If someone you care about is a homicide or death investigator please forward this information to them.
As a society we rely on these investigators to do an important job. We need to make sure they are armed with the tools for them to do it well, and to make sure they are ok at the end of the day.
Thank you.
